Today we speak of the examination (ivp) or ivu

-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------

What is intravenous Pyelogram (IVP)?
Intravenous pyelogram (IVP) is a ray examination of the kidneys, ureters and urinary bladder, using iodinated contrast material injection of the veins.
X-ray (radiograph) is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. X-rays and includes a part of the body to small doses of ionizing radiation to produce images from inside the body. X-ray is the oldest and most widely used form of photography.
On the contrary, when the intravenous injection of material in the patient's arm, and moves through the bloodstream and collects in the kidneys and urinary tract, and the conversion of these areas are bright white. It allows for IVP-ray to see and assess the anatomy and functions of the kidneys, ureters and bladder.
What are some uses of the procedure?
It helps the doctor examine the intravenous pyelogram in evaluation of urinary tract abnormalities, as well as the speed and efficiency of the patient's system is capable of dealing with waste.
Test used to help diagnose symptoms such as blood in the urine or pain in the lower back or side.
IVP examination is able to scan for the detection of problems within the urinary tract resulting from:
 kidney stones
 Extend prostate
 tumors in the kidneys, ureters or urinary bladder.
How do I prepare?
Your doctor will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare for your IVP study.
Is it likely to be instructed not to eat or drink after midnight before your exam. You may also be asked to take a mild laxative (either in the form of tablets or liquid) the evening before the procedure.
You must inform your doctor about any medicines you are taking and if you have any sensitivity, especially to iodinated contrast material. He also informed the doctor about recent illnesses or other medical conditions.
You may be asked to remove some or all of your clothes and wear a dress during the test. You may also be asked to remove jewelry, glasses and any metal objects or clothing that may interfere with X-rays.
Women always inform the doctor or X-ray art if there is any possibility of being pregnant. Photographed a number of tests have not been completed during the period of pregnancy until the fetus is exposed to radiation. X-rays if necessary, will be taking precautions to reduce exposure to radiation for a baby. See the safety page for more information about pregnancy and x-ray.
What looks like the equipment?
Equipment normally used for this study consists of the table X, and X-ray tube similar to a television monitor located in the examination room or in a nearby room. When used to display images in real time (called fluoroscopy detection) and image (to the X-ray images to a video) to hang over the table, which is located on the patient. When used to take still pictures, capture the image, either electronically or on film.
How can this procedure?
X-ray is a type of radiation, like light or radio waves. X-rays pass through most objects, including in the body. As soon as it is carefully aimed at the part of the body being examined, and an X-ray machine produces a small explosion in the radiation which passes through the body, and the registration of a photograph or film a special registration plate digital images.
Of fluoroscopy and continuous X-ray beam is used to create a series of pictures, which are expected to rise fluorescent screen television, along the lines of control. When used with contrast material, which clearly defines the areas studied, making it appear bright white, especially in the X-ray techniques make it possible for the doctor to view the internal organs of the Movement. And still images captured and stored as a movie, either electronically or on the computer.
IVP examination, and iodine-containing contrast materials through intravenous injection in the arm and gather in the kidneys, ureters and bladder, and to give these areas a bright white and sharply defined the emergence of X-rays.
X-rays and the film retains the hard copy (such as negative images) or, more likely, and digital images are stored electronically. The images stored and accessible in some cases compared to the current X-ray images for the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
How is this procedure?
This test is usually on an outpatient basis.
Put the patient on the table are still X-ray images. And then injecting the contrast material is usually in the context of the patient's arm, and still images further.
You should not be held very still, and can maintain the request of the breath for a few seconds while the X-ray image have been taken to reduce the possibility of the existence and clarity of the picture. The technical will go behind a wall or in the next room to activate the X-ray machine.
On the contrary, as the material processed by the kidney a series of pictures to be taken to determine the actual size of the kidneys and urinary tract arrested at work, it will empty. The technical-scale pressure can be applied in all parts of the body to a better perception of the urinary structures that play a macro.
When studying the full, and you will be asked to wait until that scan all the necessary images have been obtained.
IVP study is usually within the hour. However, because some of the macro-empty at a slower rate examination, may take up to four hours.
What did you experience during and after the procedure?
IVP is usually relatively painless procedure.
You will feel the bite as a minor by contrast injection through a needle in your small. Some patients suffer from the warm flush, and a mild itching in the mouth, metallic taste, because it begins to circulate throughout the body. These side effects are common and usually disappear within a minute or two, non-harmful. Only rarely, and some patients will experience sensitivity. Constant itching, can be easily treated with medication. In rare cases, the patient may become short of breath or experience swelling in the throat or other parts of the body. These indicators could be more serious reaction to contrast material should be treated immediately. X-ray to tell immediately if you experience these symptoms.
During the process of photography, you may be prompted to turn on the one hand to another, and held many different positions to enable the radiation to capture views from several angles. Towards the end of the examination, you may be asked to empty your bladder so that additional x-ray that can be taken of your urinary bladder after emptying.
On the contrary, the materials used in IVP studies will not change the color of your urine or cause any discomfort when urinating. If you are such symptoms after your IVP exam, you should let your doctor know immediately.
Which interprets the results and how I get it?
A radiologist, a doctor specially trained to supervise the examination and interpretation of X-ray and image analysis that have occurred, and send the report to your primary care or referring physician, who will discuss the results with you.
What are the benefits versus risks?
 imaging of the urinary tract with IVP is minimal invasive procedures.
 IVP value of images, detailed information to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating urinary tract conditions for kidney stones and cancer.
 an IVP can often provide sufficient information on kidney stones and obstacles to direct drug treatment and invasive avoid more surgery.
 No radiation remains in the patient's body after an X-ray examination.
 X-rays are usually no side effects in the diagnosis.
 There is always a slight chance of cancer from excessive exposure to radiation. However, the benefit of accurate diagnosis far outweigh the risks.
 effective radiation dose from this procedure is about 1.6 mSv, which is about the same person who received the normal background radiation in six months ..
 contrast material used in IVP studies can cause adverse sensitivity to some people, and sometimes require medical treatment.
 Women have always inform the doctor of technical or X-ray if there is any possibility of being pregnant rays.
One word as to reduce the exposure to radiation
Particular attention is given during the X-ray examinations to use the lowest dose of radiation possible while producing the best images for evaluation.

What are the limits of IVP studies?
It shows the details of the inside of the IVP urinary tract including the kidneys, ureters and bladder. Computerized tomography or magnetic resonance imaging (may add valuable information on the overall performance of the surrounding tissues and structures near the kidneys, ureters and bladder.
IVP studies referred to are not usually for pregnant women.
